1. Wall or sliding sliding door
Sliding interior doors are clever: they not only optimize the space but also aesthetically separate the rooms in a house.
Two sliding door solutions exist:
Applied: they hang on the ceiling or top of the opening, and then they slide against the wall.
with pocket: the door retracts inside the partition. You gain extra space but not all interior configurations allow this type of door.
Also, we decided to give you some tips today to install a sliding door.
2. What to know before installing a sliding door on a wall
A sliding door consists of at least one leaf that moves along the wall when opening, connected to two carriages on wheels, which slide on a rail . There are many practical and decorative wall-mounted sliding door styles that you can easily lay yourself. To do this, you will need the following equipment:
a sliding door kit (panel, rails, fixings, castors and screws)
a spirit level
a pencil with a paper
a friend (to two the pose is easier)
Think beforehand to measure well the height and the width of your access, as well as the depth of opening to possibly reduce the door in store. The advantage of the kit is that the panel of the chosen door will fit perfectly in the frame. If you decide to do it DIY from A to Z, remember to check this point!
3. Where to place the rail of a sliding door?
Know that you can put the rail on the ceiling, on the wall above the door, on the ground or both (top and bottom) but for more Convenience, we advise you to opt for the ceiling rail that supports better heavy loads. It also depends on the material chosen for your door: wood, glass, metal …
The advantage of the rail at the top is also (and above all) to avoid stopping constantly in the rail on the ground and to gain space.
4. Laying Your Door Rail Applied
Start by positioning your door to make sure it protrudes on each side of the frame. Then take the measurements at the top for fixing the casters.Drill and secure the metal element that will make the connection between the casters and the fixing screw on each side of your door.
Attach the door with the casters to your frame, to see the height at which to position the rail and mark the locations with a pencil (the kit insert should tell you how many holes to drill exactly, and where). />
With a bubble level, make sure the marks are at the correct level and then drill holes for the rail. Put dowels in the holes, position and screw the rail.
5. Suspend your sliding door
It’s finally the turn of your door. Make a sliding test: to do this, place the casters in the rail and hang the screws of the door: snap.
After testing the rail and casters, all you have to do is fix the door.
You can also put a handle on the door and hide the rail attached to the wall or ceiling behind a cladding (wood, metal …) for more discretion and aesthetics.
